Life is more than photo ops

Did we conform to the wishes of the hotel? Clearly we did not. They do not offer room service for breakfast. Ridiculous. Costa Rican breakfast is one of our favorites and after our last visit here 18 years ago, it was something we remembered fondly and often tried to duplicate. The caramelized plantains being the most difficult to replicate.

While they do not offer regular breakfast in the room, they will provide a floating breakfast to the villas with a pool.  We knew we didn’t want to eat in the pool, so we figured we would just tell them to put it on a table. With limited English, the server that brought this lovely breakfast of course asked when we didn’t want it floating, “But for a photo?” So we compromised and let him put the tray with the vase in the pool.
It is certainly enough food for lunch as well, so totally worth the splurge, and the room has a fridge so we are all set for the day now.
Turns out this monstrosity of a sculpture on our deck came in handy to hold all the food, “for a photo op” 😂.

Before breakfast we had been watching four aracari birds trying to raid the nest of a pair of boat billed flycatchers. Very upsetting. We are rooting for the flycatchers. We also took our limited stroll around the grounds and today saw several agoutis.

We will continue to enjoy our quiet, privacy and luxury here for our last day at Makanda. We get picked up at 5 am Sunday for another full day of birding and being dropped at our next accommodation - which will no doubt seem more like glamping - but that was the plan that Mike has executed so well. (He really missed his calling as a travel advisor.)
