Birding with Johan

Esquipulas a small town located East of Manuel Antonio. We birded several places, first stoping to see a ferrunginous pygmy owl. An adult emerged from its nest like clockwork a minute after we arrived and a chick shortly after

We spotted a lineated woodpecker nearby.

Next, we traveled to Esquipulas Rainforest Lodge, had a traditional Costa Rica breakfast, and watched some hummingbirds on the flowers. The white-crested coquette was our favorite.

We also saw a golden-naped woodpecker there.

A walk through the woods revealed a red-capped manakin and a white-tipped sicklebill.

Our guide spotted a pale-billed woodpecker nest.

We drove from there to see a baby potoo before heading to our next lodge.
