You come to the rainforest in the mountains of Costa Rica for birds, not luxury and fine dining. Although we did an independent tour, there are many groups in tour buses, and the birding lodges cater to them with easy to prepare meals that serve tables of 24.
However, across the street from the lodge we found this cute little restaurant, Mike had Caribbean trout with yucca fries. Chris had a kale salad with gooseberries. The service was great and the food was excellent. Next time you find yourself in the mountains of Costa Rica I highly recommend that you stop by.
Ps, tomorrow we head to the pacific coast to be pampered for three days before we go birding again. There will be monkeys and sloths so we won’t be bored.
Pps. I know there are no trout in the Caribbean. This was a trout from a local river with a coconut curry sauce.
Here’s a photo of an appetizer, potatoes stuffed with cheese and ham and a gooseberry sauce.
