A morning at Batsu Gardens

Batsu Gardens is across the road from our lodge.  It has a platform near bird feeders that attracts the local birds. The feeders have branches covered with Spanish moss to make photos not look staged, but they are.  We were getting 15,000-20,000 steps a day, and it’s nice to have a change of pace and have the birds come to you and to take photos not thru leaves and branches.   We had the platform to ourselves this morning, as well as restroom and drinks.  We even had a banana that was intended for a fruit feeder.

Here’s a photo of flame-colored tanagers doing mate feeding, sort of  like the wedding cake at the reception. The male is bright orange.

Here’s an emerald toucanet.

The rose-breasted grosbeak and Baltimore Oriole are on vacation from the Northeast.  Sorry about the snowstorm our family there is enduring or the rain in California.

The silver-throated tanager is finishing up some papaya.

We also saw some birds that don’t come to feeders including the chestnut-capped brushfinch and the white-napped brushfinch.
